To celebrate the Melbourne Arts Centre’s latest Icon exhibition AC/DC Australia’s Family Jewels – a free, open to everyone event, will be held on the Arts Centre forecourt from 6pm on Friday the 13th of November.
Back in Black Friday will see a line-up of Aussie rock’s biggest voices and loudest guitars performing some of AC/DC’s greatest hits for one unforgettable hour. The Back in Black Friday band will be made up of members of The Devilrock Four, The Lightning Strikes and Bug Dust.
In honour of AC/DC’s memorable 1975 video for ‘It’s A Long Way To The Top’, which saw the band playing on the back of a truck driving down Swanston Street, the Back in Black Friday performance will take place on a flatbed truck parked right outside the Arts Centre.
Guest singers including Paris Wells, Johnny Galvatron, Dave Larkin and Damian Campbell and many more will be belting out classic songs such as ‘High Voltage’, ‘Highway to Hell’, ‘For Those About To Rock’ and of course ‘Back in Black’. As a special treat, bag-piper Darrel Boyle, well known for his regular appearances on the Princess Bridge, will be heralding AC/DC fans from 5.30pm.
Everyone is invited to rock up to this free event in their best blacks for an evil way to end the working week, and the chance to win great prizes including tickets to the upcoming AC/DC ‘Black Ice’ shows at Etihad Stadium.
AC/DC Australia’s Family Jewels celebrates the history, music, performance and creativity of one of the world’s greatest rock ’n’ roll bands. It brings together material from all over the world, including important costumes, instruments, stage props, photographs and rare hand-written material such as letters, notebooks and lyrics. There is also heaps of moving image such as interviews, video clips and rarely seen performance footage, as well as published tour ephemera including exceptional early concert posters, programmes, backstage passes and AC/DC collectibles.
Exhibition Curator Tim Fisher says, “After 35 years on the world stage AC/DC are by far Australia’s most successful and influential performing artists. AC/DC Australia’s Family Jewels seeks to link the history of the band to the experience of their music. To kick-start the exhibition, Back in Black Friday is going to be an unmissable event for all the devoted fans.”
