Emporium Melbourne is set to pay homage to some of Australia’s most talented female musicians as part of the upcoming Melbourne Music Week (MMW). To celebrate, Emporium Melbourne will launch Her Sound, Her Story; an inspiring free photographic exhibition.
MMW is dedicated to showcasing the Australian music scene with a series of live shows and activations in iconic and unconventional spaces.
The photographic portrait series, features over 40 of the country’s most respected and renowned female artists. From the up and coming to the pioneers that paved the way, the exhibition includes the likes of Kate Ceberano, Tina Arena, Missy Higgins, Julia Stone, Montaigne, Vera Blue, Nai Palm, Ecca Vandal and Ella Hooper, just to name a few.
Over the past two years, Australian photographer Michelle Grace Hunder and filmmaker Claudia Sangiorgi Dalimore have collaborated to capture the individuality and strength of each artist to educate and inspire future generations of creative women.
“We wanted to create art out of storytelling,” says Claudia. “Using different platforms, incorporating dialogue and interviews, portraiture and film, we see the project, Her Sound, Her Story as a fantastic opportunity to create social change and inspire a new generation of women who think for themselves”.
The Her Sound, Her Story project has set the tone for MMW’s Opening Night, which will see a range of female artists pay homage to the courageous pioneers in the industry.
A committed supporter of MMW and other cultural events within Melbourne’s CBD, Emporium Melbourne is delighted to host the Her Sound, Her Story exhibition to help raise awareness of just some of the many women involved in Australia’s music scene, and their invaluable contribution to the industry.
“The project is a stunning snapshot spanning over five decades of Australian music history, which celebrate an incredibly unique and diverse range of female voices,” says Kate Rooney of Emporium Melbourne.
“The Exhibition is set to be a standout event on the Melbourne Music Week program, and provides Melburnians with an unparalleled opportunity to connect with a number of talented and passionate females in the Australian music industry.”
Her Sound, Her Story will be on display at Emporium Melbourne (Ground Floor, 287 Lonsdale St, Melbourne) from 10 – 24 November.
