A striking collision of slick blues and uplifting retro hues, virtuosic guitarist Robbie Bostock has recently released his new single via the jubilant instrumental journey that is Cryptic Love. Showcasing Robbie’s burgeoning craftsmanship and dazzling delivery, Cryptic Love also offers a glimpse into the Gold Coast artist’s upcoming EP Explorations.
We asked Robbie to share his fave five Aussie albums:
-
Kakadu Sunrise – Phil Emmanuel: I’ll never forget the first time I heard Phil Emmanuel perform live; I was about 9 years old, I was so blown away with his performance that the very next day I went to a CD shop and bought his album ‘Kakadu Sunrise’. I played that album so much when I was a kid. That album had a big influence on my guitar playing.
-
AC/DC Live – I love a good live album, this one is just so epic! The power and energy from the band is just incredible. I love the fierceness of Angus’s guitar on this recording, he is ringing its neck (as I like to say) on this album. I was performing at a lot of rural pubs in the early 2000’s when I first got this album and I borrowed a few of Angus’s guitar licks from this record which always went down a treat to an aussie pub crowd.
-
Terra Firma – Tommy & Phil Emmanuel: Those who were ever lucky enough to witness Tommy and Phil Emmanuel perform together live knows that it was truly something special. It was like they could read each other’s minds musically. This album is a great example of that, you can hear the pair having banter and laughter on some of the songs, it really captures the musical bond between the pair.
-
Last Stand – Cold Chisel: Another fantastic live album. I wore this CD out when I first heard it. I was driving around in a 1996 Ford Fairmont at the time and I would crank this album on the way to gigs, it’s just so good. I love all of Ian Moss’s guitar work in it and of course Jimmy’s vocals.
-
Beautiful Sharks – Something For Kate: I love this album from Something For Kate, I’ve always been a big fan of theirs. When I was in high school I would always try and get along to a show if they were performing locally. This album has got everything, great arrangements and songwriting as well as plenty of light and shade.
