Radical Son is from Western Sydney, originally with ties to Kamilroi country in northern NSW and Yuin country on the Far South Coast. He first started rapping in Redfern about 20 years ago and has slowly grown into a singer songwriter of heartfelt soul.
Here is Radical Son’s Fave Five First Nations artists:
1. Last Kinection
I have a lot of respect for this group and especially lead singer MC Weno who worked hard to become a Doctor. I enjoyed contributing to their 2010 track I Can.
2. Archie Roach
I was a fan of his music for years and it was a privilege to be able to meet him. He opened up a lot of doors for me. I was able to be part of larger productions and be introduced to people in the industry who have helped me and my career to this day. I’ve performed a few of Archie’s songs but my favourite is Munjana. I really enjoy the story in this song, it’s quite touching.
3. Buddy Knox
I’ve seen this man in community and admired how much he contributed to emerging artists providing an experience for them to grow to develop and be mentored. He’s a great musician and a demon on the guitar.
4. Yirrimal
What a showman. I was lucky enough to tour with this legend and see him and his career grow. Truly inspired by this man’s journey and his craft.
5. Emma Donovan
I’m grateful to know this woman. It has been awesome to see her grow and become what I always knew she would be, a leader for our people. I’m grateful to have had the honour of having her voice appear in some of my own works.
