Scottish-born, Melbourne-based artist Quinny has woven warmth into wistful, driving indie folk via his brand new single Settlers. Previously renowned for his tongue-in-cheek Christmas sonic creations, as well as strangers frequently mistaking him for Ed Sheeran in public, Quinny’s brand new single showcases his absorbing creative flair, as does the accompanying video.
Here’s Quinny’s Top Five Favourite Artists:
Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End – The Beatles (Abbey Road):
I know it’s pretty basic to put the Beatles top of the list, but I love this closing medley from Abbey Road, such a fitting end to an amazing and short career together. An all time favourite of mine that really showcases how brilliant they all were as a group – particularly McCartney.
Diary of Always – Biffy Clyro (The Vertigo of Bliss):
Hard to choose one from this album for me, but this song is a bit of a stand out. It’s been an aspiration to do something similar for over 20 years, so on my new album I think i manage to achieve something close more than once. I’ve never been able to nail soft-heaviness like these guys have though.
Lights Out, Words Gone – Bombay Bicycle Club (A Different Kind of Fix):
Another hard album to choose a track from, but I think it has to be this. Such a nice build and amazing vocals. I love the groove and guitar parts too – they all just sit so snugly together.
4. What’s My Age Again? – Blink-182 (Enema of the State):
One of the songs that got me started on my musical journey. Just a fun, catchy tune with Blink doing what they do best. It’s a really simple riff, but I think I’ve let my picking skills fade to such a point that I’d need to get myself properly gig fit if i was going to play it live.
G Haust – Bovine (Bolosaurus):
This is one of my favourite instrumental tracks from one of my favourite people on the planet. A great musician and friend from my hometown. It might start off a bit quaint and whimsical, but it’s a real journey worth sticking with. You’ll forget where you started by the time it’s over!
