The Melbourne Ska Orchestra formed in 2003 as tribute to 40 years of Ska. It was only supposed to be a one off but hey…some things taste good!
Here’s there Fave Five best places for a band to tour:
- Australia. It’s our home country so less expensive to get around, but we have everything here – tropics, great beaches, desert, snow, rainforests and some great cities for music. Melbourne has such a diverse mix of people that invariably it reflects in the wide range of music available.
- South America (esp Mexico). We toured there for the first time last year and were blown away by how much they loved Ska. The people are really supportive of the music industry and go wild when the bands perform live.
- Canada (esp Montreal). It’s is an amazingly beautiful country to tour and a really healthy music industry. The Montreal Jazz Festival still stands out as one of our best gigs.
- Europe (esp UK). The proximity to so many different countries and cultures makes it a really exciting place to tour. The UK is home to much of the Ska/Reggae music we love so it’s a bit of a pilgrimage when we get to perform there and get appreciated as much as we do.
- USA Red Rocks. We’ve never played there with the orchestra but I have with John Butler Trio. That’s a special place to perform, a magnificent theatre to share the spiritual joy of music.
