Tasmanian Singer-Songwriter Bully Hay is preparing to release his debut album. Set for release on the 30th of October 2024, Black Dogs and Songbirds features 11 original tracks written and arranged by Coleman before being produced, recorded and mixed by Jeff Martin from acclaimed Canadian rock trio The Tea Party.
Wash Off The World, the first single is an anthemic, undulating and revitalising ode to cleansing one’s soul from the monotony of daily routine and social structure.
Black Dogs and Songbirds is the title track from the upcoming album. Dark and contemplative, the latest single is a pensive journal entry, penned among the cold waves of winter. It’s almost a sea chanty-esque folk ballad that charts the struggle of borderline addiction and change. Both singles are out now with fresh music videos.
Bully Hay’s Fave Five Tasmanian must sees for the music lover:
1. Hobart Brewing Co.
Who doesn’t want to stand in front of an open fire with all of Tassie’s finest beer, wine and cider? Rustic vibe and atmosphere set amongst a working beer brewery on the Hobart waterfront. HBC have been a great supporter of Tasmanian original music with a lot of new bands cutting their teeth on that stage. It’s a cracking venue all year round.
2. Mona (Museum of Old and New Art)
There are always some amazing and out there sights to see at Mona. The art installations are pretty out there. Anyone that you know that may have been can’t help but exclaim, “they have a wall of vaginas” or “a machine that poos”. Aside from that, Mona hosts some great gigs for musicians all year round. And you can get there via boat on the Mona Ferry straight from Hobart, down the Derwent River. So, it’s great fun and a must see experience.
3. Pablo’s
If you want to get to an intimate show, go to Pablo’s Cocktails and Dreams. It’s a small limited capacity venue and obviously as the name implies, they make a damn fine cocktail. They’re known for hosting Jazz bands, but put on great acoustic nights where you can sit, get comfy and listen well.
4. The Royal Oak Hotel
My favourite live music venue in Launceston. The Oak has been a staunch supporter of the live original music scene for many years. They have two bars in there. The “Front Bar” which is an intimate space that works great for solo acoustic, duos etc. But the bar itself is your traditional pub vibe. Awesome food. Probably the best pub fare in Launceston.
Then you have the “Boatshed” which is the bigger bar in the venue that can handle more bodies on the floor. Many awesome nights in there watching bands play late into the night.
5. The Forth Pub
It’s so cool a regional pub gets so many great bands out there. It would have to be one of the leading live music venues in the state and its right up in the middle of Tasmania’s North West Coast between Devonport and Ulverstone. Just checking their gig guide today, they hold host to the likes of Jebediah, Daryl Braithwaite, San Cisco and The Rubens. For a small regional pub, they punch well above their weight class. Love it!
