Charlie Lane is a Naarm/Melbourne based singer-songwriter. She has just released her first single Gold Drips off her upcoming album which meshes layers of indie pop and rock edges with some new wave charm. Charlie discovered her love of music at a young age, growing up listening to her father’s favourite blues artists, becoming enamoured by the guitarwork of the likes of Buddy Guy, Lloyd Spiegel and Jimmy Hocking, alongside her mother’s tastes like Carole King and Joni Mitchell.
1. White Rabbit Record Bar in Kensington. This is an amazing record shop, beer garden and restaurant. It is so cool! I usually pop in, look at records whilst having a coffee or if I go at night, sometimes they’ll have a DJ playing whilst I sit in the beer garden. Highly recommend going!
2. The Spiegeltent. If you haven’t been to a concert here, you need to! It’s like a circus x cabaret x music tent in the middle of Melbourne with different performances all year round. Dad took me to Lloyd Spiegel there when I was in my early ’20s, it was an amazing experience.
3. Melbourne Music Vault. This place! Mum and I go here all the time! It’s hidden next to the NGV and it’s so awesome. All this info on the Australian music industry and what it used to be, what it has become. Lyric books from Aussie icons like Missy Higgins. Posters from the “Save Australian Music” rallies. It’s sick!
4. The Candelight Concerts are held at different venues around Melbourne. Even though this isn’t a set in stone place in Melbourne. It’s a must go and do. The atmosphere is so beautiful! There are 100’s of candle’s onstage with really intimate performances. It’s magical.
5. HeadGap Studios Preston is a recording studio run by Rohan Sforcina and Finn Keane its hidden in an industrial spot on Dundas Street. I’m so thankful I was able to find out about HeadGap through a friend. You have the beautiful big studio room with a grand for you to play and record and the vocal booth next door. I also just want to give a big shout out really to an awesome recording studio in Melbourne, because why not!
