Lorna Jane Clarkson wants to motivate women. That comes as no surprise, given that she has created an entire exercise brand for women. The founder and creative director of Lorna Jane, an active wear clothing brand that goes back 20 years, tweets regular tips to inspire, motivate, and encourage women to believe in themselves. It works; not only are her beautiful clothes a stunning fit, Lorna Jane has 4,318 followers on Twitter. Clearly, she’s an inspiration already.
Lorna Jane has ventured into the world of writing to help women achieve their goals and inspire them to look after themselves. Her first book, Move, Nourish, Believe, is currently being launched around the country. Lorna shared some of the motivations and challenges behind writing the book with Onya Magazine.
What inspired you to write Move, Nourish, Believe?
The Lorna Jane customers were my driving inspiration while I wrote Move, Nourish, Believe. I started this journey knowing I wanted to put pen to paper and share my story but it wasn’t until we posed the question to our Facebook fans of what they actually wanted to read about when the concept for my first book came together. Many women wanted to know how I lead my life, and as my philosophy of Move, Nourish, Believe is so poignant to Lorna Jane, I was able to delve into the challenges and triumphs of my career and how these three principals have guided me through.
What do you hope readers will take out of your book?
I hope readers will come away with a sense of confidence and vitality that they too can achieve anything they put their mind to. Whether it’s conquering that 5km run, making a conscious effort to drink eight glasses of water a day, or just remembering to never give up through the tough times, I want women to Move, Nourish and Believe every day, in any way they can.
Did you learn anything about yourself from writing the book?
Absolutely! As the book begins at the birth of the Lorna Jane brand and beyond, I was able to reflect on how far I’ve come. Working in such a fast paced industry, it’s easy to overlook your own achievements, although this experience has allowed me to acknowledge what I’ve learnt along the way, professionally and personally.
What was the toughest challenge you encountered in writing the book?
As Move, Nourish, Believe is my first book ever, the process was another challenge that I was able to explore. My toughest moment though, was translating over 20 years of business and life experiences into 200 pages. I wanted this book to be filled with engaging and useful content that any woman could relate to, so I had to remain mindful of this every step of the way, and filter my words to only the most important. The result is an inspiring guide on how I lead my best life, that I envision every reader to put down feeling empowered to Move, Nourish and Believe every day.
Onya Magazine will be following up with a review of Move, Nourish, Believe.
