Tucked away on Little Lonsdale Street in Melbourne’s city centre, 1000 £ BEND offered a unique location for the launch of Frankie Magazine’s new photo book. Set in an old warehouse with high ceilings, this open space provided a quirky atmosphere for the event that took place last Thursday evening.
Images from the photo book were blown up and hung around the venue like items hanging from a washing line, as guests wandered around admiring the collection on display. Titled The Photo Album, the new book has been designed to inspire anyone with an interest in photography and please those who simply like looking at pretty pictures. The photo book features the work and thoughts of more than 100 amateur and professional photographers from around the world.
Louise Bannister, Assistant Publisher of Frankie Magazine, who was part of the team effort behind the photo book, describes the collaboration as ‘a bit of a random idea’.
“It needed to be quirky and fun,” she said.
The most important aspect for the photo book was that it needed to reflect the Frankie Magazine.
“We really want our readers to be able to identify with Frankie Magazine through the new photo book,” Louise said.
The selection of photographs in the book imitate a nostalgic, almost seventies feel, with a sepia tint apparent in each image to suggest a consistent theme across the collection. When asked about this, Louise admitted that there was a specific intention behind the look of the images. “We wanted to have a continuous tone across the collection,” she said.
The team behind the photo book searched the internet and websites like Flickr for images over four weeks to come through with a collection of photographs suited to their vision for the project. Louise said that images were selected based on what appealed to them. “We were looking for something simple and beautiful,” she said.
While she couldn’t give away how many of these exclusive photo books were printed, Louise suggested that there wouldn’t be enough copies available to supply to their current readership of Frankie Magazine.
This limited edition title is perfect for lovers of art and photography or for a quirky gift or coffee table book.
