107 Projects presents “The Christmas Show” – an exhibition of artist-made Christmas trees and decorations inspired by Australia.
Fed up with the fir tree garlands, sweaty Santas or faux snow sentiments? Too often we see Christmas in Australia taking inspiration from the European and American ‘White Christmas’. 107 Projects is so passionately proud of Australia’s unique landscape that they have dedicated a show entirely to the creative smorgasbord from which to take inspiration. We own our traditions, so it follows that we surround ourselves with relevant Christmas trimmings, in the true spirit of the country we call home.
This inaugural end of year exhibition at 107 Projects will offer the most unique festive season gifts going around. From Christmas trees for your home, decorations or trinkets for someone special, the exhibition will have over 30 participating local artists working in the widest range of mediums, promising an exceptional standard of beauty, whimsy and Christmas magic. The opening will include performances from local wordsmiths, musicians and choral performers as well as sound art pieces inspired by the Australian bush.
The wonderful Roger Foley-Fogg, famous for his ‘Darling Harbour Christmas Tree of Light’ has generously donated two prizes for works in this exhibition, presented on the opening night.
107 Projects is a new hybrid arts space in Redfern, known for its installation approach to exhibition curation. Prepare to be wowed as you wander through a forest of glimmering trees and share a glass of vino with friends in the true spirit of Christmas.
