Wobbies World had a ‘flight simulator’ (see bitter quotation marks). The simulation of flight at the ill fated ‘Amusement Park’ (also bitter) involved sitting in an aeroplane and, aided by a recording that said things like ‘…and now we’re going over the Botanical gardens’, imagining flying.
I felt ‘wobbed’ at Wobbies World.
Not so however, Flight Experience at the QV building on Swanston St. An innocuous store frontage, inside is fitted out with the cockpit of a Boeing 737-800. Which is a big plane. Wannabe and seasoned pilots can take off, land, and fly from airports all over the world. While the use of an alias/bomber jacket is obviously not obligatory, it’s definitely worth asking your (qualified) co-pilot instructor-type to refer to you as Maverick. You can call him Goose. Goose not only shows you how stuff works, he can even simulate ‘surprise’ events like dropping an engine or loosing petrol. Or, as occurs in some airlines, strikes and industrial activities.
It’s so authentic Flight Experience is considered an entry-level actual training device.
It’s so authentic I hyperventilated and shrieked ‘we’re all going to die’ on a mistimed approached into Hong Kong. But we didn’t. Which was good.
