Another day, another instalment of the Lunchtime Series at City Square. This time, it was all about the ladies for the aptly named Women’s Wonderland. Dubbed as ‘real fashion for real women’, five popular and affordable brands took to the runway to showcase their interpretations of the Spring/Summer trends.
Leonard St
This wearable collection had three main design themes, featuring a mix and match of khaki pants, jumpsuits and tanks, which brought a touch of tough to the sweet crochet knitted vests and ponchos. Ask to raid Nan’s cupboard because bright coloured and white crochet featured heavily. The bright theme continued from crochet to graphic prints and bursts of watermelon, but was definitely overshadowed by a very strong design theme – birds. Sparrow-esque bird motifs adorned pants, dresses, jumpsuits and tops for a whimsical feeling of spring.
i.d.s
This collection was the most feminine of the lot, with sheer flowing florals finding their way onto floor length skirts, off the shoulder dresses and high waisted pants. While there was some subtle military affects thanks to a few khaki pieces, the feel for the show was sophisticated femininity. A great look was the polka dot 1950′s inspired cross-over jumpsuit, perfect for a summer BBQ.
TS 14+
Popular plus-size brand TS 14+ focused heavily on brights, clashing prints and draping. Long tops featuring stripes and graphic prints were teamed over black three-quarter cargo pants, which had the interesting detail of ruching up the thigh. My favourite look was a bold black and white geometric silk top. The intersecting angles of the lines most definitely would make you stand out in a crowd.
Jacqui E
Jacqui E has corporate chic down to a fine art with this fantastic collection of structured dresses and pants that would take you seamlessly from 9 to 5 to after-5. The more casual looks of the collection followed the subtle military trend with khaki, camel and taupes anchoring the bright patterns and abstract floral graphics of other looks.
Supre
Supre managed to fit multiple trends into their segment of the show, following on the previous showings of khaki colours and military style double-breasted buttons. Not to be outdone, sheer florals and animal prints also came down the runway, with graphic prints and bright block colours also featuring. Crochet appeared again, adding a free-spirited feel to some of the tougher looks, making it a trend to watch out for.
Women’s Wonderland was a fantastic show that catered for and can be enjoyed by those of all ages and sizes. The best thing about it? The affordability of the brands – no saving for months for these items, I’m to go grab some now.
