Last week saw the official launch of Assembly Label’s first ever womenswear collection. Quietly residing among the bustling Darlinghurst streets, the Black Eye Gallery welcomed an energetic and equally trendy crowd for the brand’s official launch party. The gallery walls were lined with travel photos whilst three-dimensional block letters lit up the brand’s name across the floor. Amongst the leather and denim-clad attendees and abundance of free flowing coconut water and vodka sat a humble clothing rack containing the new collection.
Sydney based design team Damien Horan and Daniel Oliver produced a collection synonymous with Assembly Label’s classic aesthetic. Floaty cotton t-shirts in neutral tones hung alongside über comfy looking elasticised shorts, button-up shirts, dark silks and a soft leather flared skirt. The stand out piece was a matching navy and white collared shirt and shorts. Undoubtedly drawing inspiration from your Dad’s perpetually daggy Hawaiian shirt print, the shirt and short combination managed to make it not only highly wearable but very on-trend.
The collection combines minimalist design with high quality natural fibres, creating practical items ideal for everyday wear. Perhaps more specifically, for my fellow Sydneysiders, daily strolls from Bondi to Bronte.
The debut women’s collection is available exclusively at the Assembly Label Bondi pop-up store and will likely appear soon in the e-boutique alongside the brand’s famous menswear, accessories and homewares.
