The Onya Magazine Beauty Department showcases the style, quality and luxury of the Australian beauty industry. Our articles seek to entertain and educate our beauty devotees. Our point of difference is not only our commitment to Australian made and owned beauty brands, but also our integrity, and as such, we are dedicated to delivering honest beauty reviews and articles to our loyal readership.
We are currently seeking two Beauty Interns/Beauty Writers (one based in Melbourne, one based in Sydney) who shares the same vision and values. This exciting opportunity will see you assisting the Beauty Editor on a part time basis, in the running of the Beauty Department – sending emails, organising reviews and liaising with Public Relations.
You will also review beauty products and services (oh the hardship – yes it’s a tough job, but someone has to do it) and write beauty articles. You better have a lot of space in your bathroom cabinets, because you are going to need it to warehouse the beauty product you will be receiving.
The Beauty Editor will keep you in ideas for articles (they drive her batty every time her head hits the pillow at night, and she often has to get up and stumble in the dark to find pen and paper to write them down). You will however be free to nominate the number of articles that you would like to write each month.
You will be organised and have a strong attention to detail. Yes, yes, isn’t that what all the job descriptions say? Well, let me explain. It wouldn’t go astray if you are anally retentive when it comes to sentence construction and share an ardent dislike for misplaced apostrophes. But, we’re not just the Grammar Police – we also love people who are resourceful, innovative, creative and above all passionate – yes you are a beauty aficionado.
You will have an exceptional flair for writing with an entertaining style and distinct voice (we definitely like personality here at Onya), along with previous experience reviewing and writing beauty articles.
If you meet the above criteria, worship all things beauty and have a passion for Australian made and owned brands, then this could be a fabulous opportunity to start your writing career in the beauty industry with exposure in a successful online magazine, that will also be joined by a print publication later this year.
If you are interested in applying for this position, please email gaynor@onyamagazine.com with your bio and a sample of your writing. Applicants who are successfully shortlisted for interview will be contacted on Monday the 21st of June, 2010 . Upon being shortlisted you will also receive a full job description.

Im thinking that its a shame your online magazine appears to be aimed at the younger market when there are so many more mature women who are not catered for! There are so many online magazines for the younger set eg..Australian Women Online,Daily Addict and so on!What about having me write a weekly column for those of us who are over 60?There are more of us now days than at any other time.

Hi Barbara,
Onya is not solely aimed for the younger market – it is aimed for 18-45 year olds, but it certainly caters to anyone who is interested in the issues we discuss and the features we publish. We feature an array of topics and issues – some younger, some older, but we never limit ourselves by being a magazine just for a specific type of person – i.e. in your twenties, or in your sixties.
If you are interested in becoming a columnist for Onya, you are more than welcome to contact us on info@onyamagazine.com with your pitch and some examples of your work.
Kind regards,
Sandi Sieger – Director and Editor-In-Chief
