There’s nothing like Australia.
Sure, we at Onya know that.
Which is precisely why, exactly one year ago, we launched a magazine celebrating everything great and wonderful about this country.
So, just out of curiosity, we’re wondering what you think of Tourism Australia’s new campaign? If you haven’t seen it, click this link to check it out.
Does it portray Australia accurately? Will it sell? Is it out-dated? Modern? Does it depict your Australia?
We’d love to know thoughts, either in the comment box below or via info@onyamagazine.com.
Who knows, there may just be a little treat for the comment we find the most interesting.

Tourism Australia was clearly burnt by the ‘Where the bloody hell are you?’ Lara Bingle fiasco and decided to return to the good old tried and true cliches of Australia. I don’t have a massive issue with it, to be honest. After all, this is an ad to promote Australia overseas, where people don’t conceive much about us except for the Opera House, koalas and Steve Irwin. The ‘that’s not a bear’ throwaway line and the great scenery shots make this ad. Unfortunately the jingle is utterly horrible and pretty much condemns it to the annals of shame.

OMG I am speechless and cringing with shame- who’s responsible for that ‘jingle’. I’m having a 70′s Meadow-lea flashback. Such a great concept delivered so badly. Oh well maybe they’ll think its ‘cute’ overseas, though I would rather we were seen as sophisticated at least. I dont know what else to say………

I don’t know if this is too crude to post on here, but in the spirit of ‘taking the piss’ and in case you feel like a snort and a giggle…

As a side note, isn’t this the very image that Onya, in a sense, works to challenge and restructure?

RBS, I love it. Great piss take.
Yes, in a sense, you are right. Onya certainly aims to challenge the traditional image if Australia – and make people realise there is much more than koalas and kangaroos and the Opera House to us – but, and I think Tighe hit the nail on the head with this one – this ad wasn’t made for Australians, it was made for the exact people that think these things anyway – tourists.
Onya will always work towards restructuring the Australian image, but I must admit, there’s a whole big part of me that just loves this ad. There is nothing modern about it – as soon as I saw it I felt like I was eight – and I like that. I like that it’s innocent and daggy and all things wholesome. No matter what Onya tries to challenge, there are some things that, I believe, shouldn’t be. I like what Austrailia.com is doing to promote tourism. Even if it does make me feel eight.
