The following is a piece written by the two young women behind Dear Ellen:
If we could describe ourselves in four words, it would be, WE LOVE ELLEN DEGENERES. We’re two best friends, Lisa Morgan and Sherilyn Locmayon who share a dream of meeting our idol Ellen DeGeneres. For years we’ve been an avid fan of her and we watch The Ellen Show daily. You will even find us dancing along with Ellen in the introductory segment of her show.
During high school, we always changed lyrics to songs in a satirical manner and only recently, we decided to change the lyrics to popular songs so they are all about our idol – Ellen DeGeneres. In other words, we ‘Ellenify’ them. We officially started our mission in June, 2010 when we uploaded our first ‘Ellenified’ version of ‘Break Your Heart’ by Taoi Cruz which has already received 651 hits in three months, making it our highest viewed video so far. Since then, we have uploaded a further four songs and have reached a total of 2,642 video views.
We’ve had overwhelming support from not only Australians but from people around the world. We’ve also had our story published in two newspaper articles and we are constantly spreading the word through social networking sites such as our Facebook Fan page and our Twitter page. We’ve also emailed Ellen DeGeneres herself numerous times in the hope she will one day see us.
Along the journey, we’ve copped some negative comments but we try to not let it faze us. We believe that people, especially teenagers, should follow their dreams, no matter how big they are. Even if people are constantly discouraging you and trying to stop you going for your dreams, we believe everyone should go for it if it’s truly what you believe and want, because someday, somehow, it will come true. We want to spread the word to as many people as we can and hopefully one day, Ellen DeGeneres will be one of the people watching our videos.
